Comment:

My tribute to a man whose music mashed Albert Ayler, James Brown, Chic, Talking Heads and Captain Beefheart into a hyperkinetic blender and made a mixture all his own. This was actually tougher to compile than I thought it would be, but I think it worked out. FYI, I edited 1:07 from "The Devil Made Me Do It" (with a 20-second fade) to fit all of this onto 80 minutes.

"I only live on the surface, I don't think people are very pretty inside..." Buy is a great cd. The rest I haven't heard yet... I was thinking of doing a mix of the Contortions with John Zorn and the Slammin' Watusis.

Fuckin' killer! I'd have a hard time compiling this as well since I think all the Contortions stuff is amazing. Good picks from the rest of James' output, but Stained Sheets (missing here) has been a mix-tape monkeywrench favorite of mine for years.

Heart attack. I must have it. I only own Buy and White Cannibal, so it is necessary that I acquire this slab of rock. Do I have any saxophone histrionics that interest you?

Wonderful stuff. I had his first three albums from 79-80 but lost track of him after that. Recently picked up his 2004 compilation Sax Education which is a good intro and includes a live bonus disc. Of couse this mix here is awesome too.

Contort yourself! James Chance is to James Brown as James White is to Jesse James, or something like that . . . I'm sure you have a trade list six feet long but if I could get on it for this, I sure would!
