Comment:

A much-delayed, long-since-requested mix for Peter--my summation of Wyatt-era Soft Machine (the only era that really interests me). This past weekend, I finally got a hold of the fourth album and re-purchased the third album. Really fantastically complex yet (at least initially) whimsical British psych. And not only is Robert Wyatt one of the greatest vocalists of all-time, but listening to this mix reminded me how much the drumming world lost when he fell from that balcony in 1973.

I can only agree with everything you say (except my interest in the Softs maintained until Hugh Hopper quit). First-class selection. As a purist, I'd suggest the Top Gear Session version of Moon In June over the the one from Third, but that's just me nit-picking.

Cool tribute, but the still hasn't grown on me that much. Not sure why. It seems as though I would like them, and yet they leave me a little cold. Maybe I should re-examine them.

I must admit, I feel the same as Sean in respect of the soft machine, but I shall re-examine them.

Geez, I haven't heard any of this stuff. They're one of those bands that have slipped under my radar all these years, as I only know one song by these softies.
