Comment:

I made this for a friend's baby--you're never too young for bloody folk songs! Although strictly speaking, they're not ALL murder ballads. Only about half. A breakdown for the interested:

1. Sororicide, drowning
2. Sinking of ship, individual drowning
3. No death per se, but subject is bespelled by evil mermaid
4. Trickery, no death
5. Long sojourn in Elfland, no death
6. Intended murder victim slays attacker (variant of "Lady Isabel and the Elf Knight")
7. Murder of star-crossed lovers by maternal black magic
8. Wife runs off with gypsies, no death
9. Adultery, no death
10. Adultery, betrayed husband slays wife and paramour
11. Patricide (unusual variant, this ballad usually involves fratricide)
12. Pirate sinks ship, "all of her merry men drowned"
13. No death! Baby Jesus!
14. Father sells daughter into slavery, but no death
15. Ugly witch, no death
16. See #1

The cover is a photo of me as a toddler.

Cool. I can't even imagine how much the kid's parents appreciated this. ;-)
Adding this to the Exhibition "Cater or Indoctrinate" - check it out.

Funnily, since I posted it on LJ, this may be one of my most requested mixes ever--and another friend, who is pregannt, has already asked for a copy for her own child after the birth. :p

Great exhibition! Thanks. :D
