Comment:

Although it looks like one, this is not another "guilty pleasures" mix (for volume two of that series, I am awaiting receipt of the esteemed M. Fundak's guilty pleasures mix). Instead, this was a gift for Jen's father, who was recently diagnosed with throat cancer and who is to undergo (outpatient, thankfully--they caught it early) surgery in 8 days to remove his tumor. Joe is a classic guy--a very sharp Vietnam vet-turned-mechanic with a great sense of humor, a ton of raw intelligence and more common sense than anyone I've ever met. Oh, and let's not forget, an incredibly large heart. He and I talked about my doing something like this for him a couple of years ago and I never got around to it, but I figured this would be a good week for him to enjoy it in his truck on his way to and from work--something upbeat, pretty damned fun and, in its own way, life-affirming (hence the sort of sentimental closer). Jen's rule when I asked her questions about what songs to include was "the more he's heard it, the more he'll like it", hence the VERY well-known choices by each artist. The obviousness of it, however, does not detract from its listenability. I hope this helps him as much as it can.

Yeah, this is all pretty pumpin. Just cuz something's popular doesn't mean it NECESSARILY sucks. I could listen to Hot Rod Lincoln another hundred times or so (and probably will over the course of my life . . .) Best of luck to Jen's dad.

Very nice of you to make this for him Rob. Just because a song is well known doesn't make it bad.

Sweet mix, with only the exception of that god awful Queen song. Great Hendrix and Allman Brothers picks though.

What k-freak said. There's always room for a good ol' classic rock mix and this looks like a great one.

Nice One! captures the period well. A Deep Purple would have been nice, but that's just me.
