Comment:
Another ,dorky theme mix" (Dale), inspired by Maxwell Geismar (ed.), ,The Higher Animals: A Mark Twain Bestiary", New York: Thomas Y. Crowell, 1976, which I happen to have had the honor of translating into German a couple of years ago. The title refers to the following quote from the ever-reliable Mr Clemens: ,I have been studying the traits and dispositions of the `lower animals' (so-called), and constrasting them with the traits and dispositions of man. I find the result humiliating to me. For it obliges me to renounce my allegiance with the Darwinian theory of the Ascent of Man from the Lower Animals; since it now seems plain to me that the theory ought to be vacated in favor of a new and truer one to be named the Descent of Man from the Higher Animals." The artwork was adapted from the German edition of the book; the fabulous illustrations are by Christian Farner. An extra spatial thank you goes out to Gerry for tracks 9 & 17.Feedback:
Always nice to see an appearance by Snakefinger & Raymond Scott can always take a mix to another plane. Here's hoping you won't be receiving any angry emails form Mr. Farner about the cover art.
weird and wicked in a really positiv way
Thomas, this is absolutely excellent! Incredibly eclectic with fun choices and inspired transitions. Mighty fine work!
Who can argue with Mr. Clemens? Who can argue with the selections here? GREAT mix!
Thomas - very impressive job on this. Quite the imaginative list of "higher" animals. I'm adding this mix to the Exhibition "My Little Red Book."
Nice.
Outrageous!
Tierisch gut! I love the wide variety of artists and styles.
Great. Fun. and Great Fun. As usual Mr. Clemens' comments remain true, even truer, today. A fun addition could have been one of the Flanders & Swann animal songs for a little levity (the Hippopotamus Song is my favorite). Of course, you know what Sam'l said about the German language!
awesome stuff once more, Thomas, and you're most welcome for the toonage
really nice looking Thomas!!!!!!!
I like it!
Brilliant stuff!
My god this is grand, man.
Great stuff here. Haven't heard the Belew track in a long time.
Brilliant - from A to chimpan-zee. Perfect cover too. As dorky theme mixes go, this is tops.
Yes, this is great stuff.
Outstanding, Thomas. A great (and not at all dorky) theme!
Dorky? Maybe. But we likes dorky in my house.
Hats off to you Thomas for an outstanding 'dorky' mix CD...when r u goona get a tape-deck?...& where is Dale??????
Wow, I'm impressed by the amount of work you put into this.
