The officially-released "Words & Music" compilation from 2004 is decent, but I thought it would be better to experience John Mellencamp's metamorphosis from Springsteen knockoff to unique musical craftsman in chronological order. I've also included a few favorites I feel the official release glossed over, and excluded a few non-essential tracks that were included on "Word & Music.".I have edited "I Need A Lover" down to a more endurable 3:45. Gone is the instrumental tomfoolery found during the long intro. The lyrics now kick in at the 0:39 point.Disc one of two.
