God Bless Chocolate City (And Its Vanilla Suburbs)
Comment:
This is a "welcome home" mix for my two daughters, who are returning (albeit far too briefly) to the D.C. suburbs - one yesterday, the other next week - as their semesters at college draw to a close. Just a collection of songs I've been listening to, songs I thought they'd enjoy, and songs that otherwise seemed appropriate. Title from the first track. 02/28/06: I made a number of changes to this mix between the time I posted it and the time I gave it to my daughters. The "Ypsilanti All Starz" were featured on Found magazine's site. The Mr. Magic cut appears on Stones Throw Record's compilation "The Third Unheard: Connecticut Hip Hop, 1979-1983."Feedback:
looks pretty damn
great!
great!
exactly what sport said
Very nice. I have had that Hendrix tune on my mind lately.
This mix looks great. Working for the federal government in DC, it seems like everyone I know relocated here from somewhere else. It's interesting to hear about people coming home to DC.
Well, we're not natives - but we've been here 12 years, and it's where the girls have grown up.
Some great picks here.
Looks great.Love Low Rider.
Very nice. I love that opening track.
Great mix. That's one of my very favorite G. Clinton moments, among other things here.
Yeah, I remember when there were no barriers all over D.C., and the Omnimax at the Smithsonian only cost a quarter (although the only movie was To Fly), and lots of other old guy memories. By the way, nice mix. Although you really need some Go-Go tunes: D.C.'s homegrown funk style.
AC/DC! This looks like a good cup of hot chocolate!
Cool stuff.
This looks like a great mix. And I love the cover, as well. I've been down in DC for eight years (never went back home after college and got a job w/ the gov't).
Very cool of you to make this for your daughters.

Tilly & the Wall seem a bit out of place here, but that makes this mix all the more interesting. Fine job, chocolate lover.
superb
Fun & fonkee.
Great mix...awesome Tilly & the Wall choice.
I'm right under the top-right half of the second C in chocolate, on the red line, hangin' with Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. Great mix!
this isn't fair, i came home from school and my dad made me listen to talk radio. i think the ride home would have been much more enjoyable had i been listening to this.
Hey, this is classic. Bring back the Misfit! ( :
