Comment:
This one is for Kylie Minogue who in the last few days announced that she has breast cancer. She may not be everyone's taste but I'm sure we all wish her a speedy recovery.I: So tell us about The Pink Room
D: I'd rather talk about the music
I: Eclectic offering to say the least, Bauhaus, Kylie, Coltrane
D: If it grooves in my ear we'll play it.we found there was a section of people who didn't care about genres, fads, eras, colour etc they just wanted great stuff.the more diverse the better.we get Rockers, Mods, Jazzers, Goths all mingling together & getting off on each others tastes
I: Why Cassette?
D: Coz it reminds me of a Choc Bar.I grew up on Tapes.they're longer.you get two programmes instead of one.they break.they take longer to make & mean much more when you receive one.because you spend longer making it you spend longer thinking `bout the person you're making it for.I do anyway
I: What seperates Club D from Clubs like Blow Up
D: They'd never play Aerosmith, Mud or Bauhaus or if they did it would have to have been through the mixer or mashed up with Exotica.
I: Charlie Rich?
D: Charlie could play anything, Jazz, R'n'Roll, Easy, Blues .he was so much more than the Country that made him a star.he was down at Sun with Cash & Presley.
I: Elvis being your first love
D: Yeah, I played Elvis for years without listening to anything else.I don't think I knew there was anything else but Elvis.
I: You said you hated Reggae, what changed?
D: I discovered Reggae was more than Bob Marley or there was a Bob Marley before Island Records.actually it begun with Toot's Funky Kingston.those Trojan Boxes opened the doors to Jamaica.
I: What about any new stuff.
D: Most new stuff tends to reference the past.it can't help but do anything else.you never read reviews without a comparison being made.if Louis arrived today you'd admire him but you'd think 50 years too late. The Strokes 25 years too late.I hear The Strokes & I immediately want to hear Television
I: So what happens in The Pink Room?
D: Maybe you should be asking why istead of what?
Feedback:
Right On!
Brilliant, comme typique!
Nice. 'Nuff said.
It only seems like last year you & Kylie were planning a top secret mission to rescue me from the depths of France Dom! Pink Schmink my friend, "I relly love, I really love your ti... mixes.
Now this is a club mix I can get down with. Like many people here my first thought upon hearing about Kylie was "I hope Dom's taking this well".
Fun.
another interesting-looking mix, D.
Golden, Dom!
Fine work. Happy to see you've rediscovered Kylie. Sad to learn that she has breast cancer.
Ditto Gerry.
I wanna know when a Club D is opening up near me! Completely agree about MIXING music (no borders is what I say). Nothing like a good mix up dance tape.
Ditto FRBR (which means dittoditto Gerry).
