Comment:

Very difficult to shorten this mix - left off quite a few great tracks, so that I might feature many aspects of Zevon's career. You may be missing a few of your fave tracks - sorry! I'm a hit-or-miss Zevon fan - I don't really understand his truly fanatical fans, nor do I think he released only 2 great albums or so. He's been plagued by a lot of bad (80s especially) production, that's for sure. I could easily make a double-disc comp, but I think I'll keep it to this length for now. Any tracks you miss?

I agree with you about Warren Zevon. This mix is a good representation of his work.

I only miss the obvious one. But luckily a large part of it can be heard on the mix immediately above this, since Dexy's ripped off a whole hunk of "Werewolves Of London" for their "One Of Those Things".

Wow; I am just in the middle of making a Warren Zevon mix. I am a big Zevon fan. You have picked a lot of good ones here. Mine will be posted by Friday I hope. Awsome work.

One of my personal favorite Zevon tracks is the hockey song (I wanna hit somebody). I think that's the title.

Not all too familiar with his material but you did pick some of the songs I like and am familiar with.

I can't really comment as I've never heard anything other than "Werewolves of London". Definitely (for me, certainly) an artist I must explore more.

Glad "Roland.." is here...mine would be different but I can't argue any of these...I'm a hit-or-miss Zevon fan as well.

I would have thrown in a Lyme & Cybelle (sic?) track, but great picks nontheless! I agree with the hit or miss comment.

Yeah, that Lyme & Cybelle song ("Follow Me") is my favorite thing that he ever recorded. I miss "Carmelita" and, to be honest with you, I could do without "Roland...," as it encapsulates a lot of what annoys me most about much of Zevon's work. That said, you know I want a copy of this ASAP, as we discussed the other day. :-)

I thought about that L&C song, as it's pretty great (though definitely not my favorite work of his). It's SO different than the rest of this that I opted not to include it. Same with "Outside Chance", another Zevon-penned fave.

Unfortunately I'm more familiar with his appearances on Letterman than his music. "Outside Chance" is a great song, which you exposed me to on one of your mixes a long time ago. How many of you heard its prominent use in the season finale of CSI"?

5 stars just for doing a Zevon compilation, Sean. I would have included such faves as: "My Ride's Here," "Sentimental Hygiene," "Mohammed's Radio," "Veracruz," and "Wild Age." And while your comments about some of the production shortcomings of his mid-period, I'd still take the crappiest Warren Zevon song over just about everything on the radio right now.

What I meant to say below was: And while your comments about some of the production shortcomings of his mid-period ARE VALID,I'd still take the crappiest Warren Zevon song over just about everything on the radio right now.

Pretty good Sean, but, I would have used "Reconsider Me " & "The Heartache" from Sentimental Hygiene

i can't believe no one's lobbied for 'lawyers, guns & money,' best heard in the slashing live solo rendition on 'learning to flinch'. good 'un sean

Y'know, I'm not sure what I disliked about "Roland" before, but it's now one of my three or so favorite Zevon tunes. You actually hit almost everything that I love most here except for the two that I mentioned years ago (and "Carmelita" is definitely my favorite now).
