Comment:

Los Lobos has always been one of my favorite bands to see live in a club. Saw them a few times in the 80s & 90s and again recently. They are one of the great rock `n' roll bar bands.

This mix is not a best of Los Lobos. It doesn't have any of their wonderful ballads for instance, country or their Mexican folk songs. No, this mix is full of their rockin' party stuff. Non stop crazy dance music and straight ahead rock `n roll. Toe tappin' and foot stompin' in a sweaty bar (or a late night summer cookout).

Hmm... I've never gotten the appeal of these guys, but if you say they're that good, I could take a listen sometime. At least you didn't include that "Will the Wolf Survive?" (or whatever its title is) song that really annoyed me back in the '80s... but you *did* include "La Bamba," which had much the same effect. ;-)

Well, as I have mentioned, these guys are literally my homies. Hidalgo is one of the finest musicians around. I'll bet this is big fun. When's the party at your house?

Yes, they are that good, Rob, but I make that statement through the prism of seeing them many times in a small club setting where they are just awesome. You can still see them in clubs. I also have most of their albums & box set. As for La Bamba... I wasn't listening to Top 40 radio back in the 80s so I don't have that annoyance factor but I bet you'd dance to it in a club (or at least tap your toes). ;-)

Yes (also), they are that good. See them live. Rock, soul, blues, psychedelic, Mexican folk, rockabilly, ballads -- they play just about anything & do it amazingly well. My favorite band (now that the Dead are dead). Lots of good live stuff floating around too. It is fun to see all these Anglos dancing to polkas & cumbias at their shows too.

Los Lobos are a truly amazing live band with many good releases. I like "Wolf" actually - that whole record was pretty different than anything I was listening to back then - a real breath of fresh air and it hipped me to some great rootsy sounds. Nice job! My old band opened for them once - well, as a second stage act.

"I Got Loaded" is an old blues song that topped the R&B charts in 1951 by Peppermint Harris. It was also covered by Robert Cray.

A lot of fun. I'd be interested in a Vol. 2 with the mellower stuff you mention, something I'd be more likely to listen to more often. But this looks like great-time music.

I love Los Lobos, I saw them open for Dylan in Guadalajara, Mexico and then 15 years later my friend Javier Mendoza opened for them here on the St. Louis Riverfront. They were equally great in both decades.
