Comment:
With the proliferation of Dexys mixes on this site (okay, two recently, from dimflash and Ms. Santa Cruz County), I thought I'd finally throw my hat into the ring. I like both of their mixes a lot, btw, but thought that mine was sufficiently different (despite there being a small catalog from which to pick) to warrant a posting. I've really come to like this band a lot over the last couple of years, and I hope that I one day acquire the b-sides from Searching for the Young Soul Rebels to make this definitive... (that's a hint for any of my trading partners out there).Feedback:
ohhh man. i read the title and knew that was "come on eileen" haha. i'm such a goon... who's obsessed w/ that song. hmm, it kinda makes me want to listen to their other songs... ~*Quel*~
wee this is a hero fro me(just check my mix "stop the burning") allt his is classic even if I wouldn't pick Come on Eileen but that's me, have you heard the BBC sessions ?
Funny thing is - my whole adult life has been inspired by a love of Dexys Midnight Runners (just look at my 'personal website' link!) and yet I saw the title of this mix without even spotting the familiarity of the lyric! I have to say, given how obsessive and fussy I am on this subject, I do approve of this mix! It's a more representative 'best of' than either of the compilations which have been released - a nice mix of singles lesser-known album tracks. I'm sure Kevin Rowland would approve too since it gives greater prominence to the earlier and later material than the obvious "Come On Eileen"-era Celtic Soul. Let's just hope that the new material which Dexys are currently working on will be of the same quality!
Yeah, I recognized that line too. I loved those first two Dexys albums back in the day. Would like to get the BBC sessions too.
I never could get past the overalls and the barefoot dancing...maybe I should try again.
Slam dunk, Rob! Very nice!
Ha, ha; A guilty pleasure of mine. Happy youincluded "Come On Eileen".
Pure heaven!
Looks interesting. Maybe i have to check out that band, i dont know that stuff very well.
Wow, this is surprising. I've always loved "Too-Rye-Aye," and "Geno" is great too. Have you heard Kevin Rowland's "My Beauty" album of covers? It's very, very odd.
