Comment:

I saw Rooney open for The Strokes a couple years back, and they weren't very memorable. I saw their CD at the library though and thought I'd pick it up and give it a listen. Other than "I'm Shakin'", the rest of the album sucks. Here's a secret- all the songs on this tape but three(Wilco, Spoon and The Rolling Stones; though actually I did used to own that Apples In Stereo CD) come from CDs I got from the library. My county's library is reportedly the busiest system in the country and I'd like to think that's in no small part thanks to me. Heh heh heh. Anyway, "I'm Shakin'" is a great lyrical portrait of angst dressed up as rocking out music. M. Ward should dress it down the way he did with Bowie's "Let's Dance", and do the same to Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark" and The Bee Gee's "Stayin' Alive". Incidentally, those songs by Wilco and The Rolling Stones were originally slated for inclusion on the mixtape "Guitars Like Helicopters/Aww, How Does It Feel?" from April 19, 2005. Side One is loud except for the Spoon song on side 1 (which reminds me of carrying my Grandfather's casket in to the church four years ago) and the Sleater-Kinney songs on side 2. I'm seeing Spoon tonight, and if you think I'm excited you have no idea.
