Standing on the Korner: In Memory of Alexis Corner
Comment:
I made this CD to win a bet. I played in a band for a few years and was always suggesting we do some punk song or another. The guitarest always suggested we do some R&B song or another. During practice one day he says to me "Fuck off man, you wouldn't know good fuckin' R&B if someone shoved it in and out of your ass." So the next week I gave him this mix.Feedback:
THere are a lot of great songs here (and some great old Dead tunes-most people don't think of the Dead as a blues band anymore), but I think you lost the bet. I don't think I'd really classify a lot of these as R&B.
I think you'd be wrong. I'd argue these are all what R&B was all about. Don't get me wrong - the Staxx and Motown folks were good and all, but that was more Doo-Wop than R&B. Plus, I was going for the Rockin' R&B. See The Dirtbombs "Ultraglide in Black" for some kick ass rockin' r&b.
