Comment:

Although this began "for the hell of it," this is the product of hours of concentrated work. However, after listening to the result (as I am right now), I think it was worth it. This is *a lot* of fun and, bizarrely enough, it all works exceptionally well. I've got some thanks to throw around: to Dead Man for the BJM track (included on the fantastic first volume of his tremendously great "backwards guitar" mixes); to popkulcher for the Sweet track (included on his fantastic Sweet comp); to sport! for reminding me of how much I love that Donovan song (by including it on his aptly titled and expertly compiled "God HELP America" mix); and, last but not at all least, to Jana for the Hold Steady song (I'm still not sure if I like them a lot or hate them--I can really go either way on that guy's voice from moment to moment--but that song has stayed with me for the past couple of weeks and I can safely say that I like *it* a lot, at least). Title from said Hold Steady track. Oh, the "*" entries are snippets that I edited from my Memorex (TM) CD/DVD/CD-Rom cleaning disc.

Looks very good. Anything that has Van Morrison, The Maytals, The Dead, Aretha & the Memorex Lady is just fine by me.

Thumbs up for the Dexy's track.I'm so sick of hearing Come On Eileen so it's great to see you championing one of their best LP tracks. And Take Me To The Other Side,I can get lost in so many strange places listening to that.

Looks great, Rob! I was just listening to the Hold Steady the other day, and you can't go wrong with Brian Jonestown, Spacemen 3, Superchunk--pretty much all of hte artists you're included. The Memorex clips are a nice touch.

Rob, this is the MOTHER of all "for the hell of it mixes"!! Thanks for the mention here. I really like the Billie Holiday through the Memorex especially!

"Cleaning Windows" is one of my favorite VM tunes. And I love the tex-mex sound of the Sir Douglas Quintet, but I don't know this particular song.

Holy cow, sorry I missed this one! Looks like a K-lassik one there, my friend. Especially love the BJM, Pavement, Spacemen 3 and VU tracks. That Hold Steady disc is definitely one of my recent faves and I'm pretty sure that Stripes song is my favorite one off their new one. Great stuff.

Looks really good Rob! I see the Faces. Is it off of their relatively recent large box set? If so, opinion of the set?

It's a clean machine!

It seems like the more mixed up you get ( Billie Holiday meets Pere Ubu ?!), the more I like the results. Please keep on mixing those genres

I can feel the fun from here. That Maytals song in particular always cheers me up.

The Memorex thing reminds me of some bits I've included on past mixes, including excerpts from a vinyl record on Quadrophonic sound.
