Comment:

A distillation of my most recent musical phase -- eight obsessive months of reading, feverish downloading and out-of-print-CD-bidding. The mix is arranged roughly chronologically (each year's songs are grouped together). The focus is on the major players of Tropicalismo (Veloso, Gil, Mutantes, Costa, ZT), but some peripheral artists and late bloomers appear as the years progress. Taken in context with all the albums I've amassed, it's interesting to note the development of each artist -- their musical growth, which of them floundered fast and which stayed consistent, and their universally rabid genre-hopping!

I love this stuff so much. I've got fragments of a big essay about all these tracks pretty much written in my head, but I'm refraining from putting it to printer paper; I'll leave that to the experts and non-dilettantes who have done more than sift through the hypertext of AllMusic and various interview sites.
