Comment:

Summer being... well, summer... been too busy for mixes lately. But that didn't mean I wasn't getting bored without something new for the car, so it was time for another hastily-assembled, thoroughly theme-free random mix of odds & ends. As is typically the case, mostly comprised of recent purchases (great new albums from Malkmus, Pernice Bros., Dressy Bessy, plus a buncha reissues/remasters like the super-cool Erickson compilation), tracks already residing on my hard drive awaiting some other mix, and crap sitting in boxes in my closet (i.e. lots of cover songs from compilations & tribute albums that I never listen to but do draw from for mixes). Largely an excuse to listen ad nauseum to the unbearably wonderful Hello track, better known via Ace Frehley's surprisingly loyal cover version, from an appallingly bad (and thus superb) Hello compilation I just picked up dirt-cheap used.

This looks like great summer fun. And wow, that Shonen Knife song has opened two mixes in the last two-to-three days (see Shawn Porter's mix for his daughter)! (Not that using that song is a bad thing...)

Ain't nothing wrong with a random mix every now and then. I've heard some good tracks from the new Dressy Bessy, so I'm happy to hear that you think it's great. I'll add it to my want list. Also likin' the MBV, Pernice Bros, the Moon and the Aerovons.

Great stuff! I really dig that Moon tune. Tons of great, if random selections here.

Nice. I much apprecaite a good random mix from time to time as well - and actually, your description of how they get put together is a lot like how my random ones get put together! Especially the comment about the compilations sitting in a box - I've amassed loads of those, never with the intention of listening to them (and a lot have been stuff which came with newspapers, or magazines, etc.), but which always come in handy for the occasional mix. Anyway, look at me ramble. I love the Pogues, 101ers and Talking Heads picks too.
