Comment:

A revised version of my 80-minute mix of the solo work of one of my favorite guitarists of all time and one of the most overlooked artists of the modern era (the original version was posted on 4/28/03). I put this together so I could include tracks from his most recent (and best) album, Happiness in Magazines (my album of the year last year), and to replace a couple of tracks with new-old favorites. Until 2003, he was also, IMHO, by far the most interesting member of Blur (having survived at least 13 years under the shadow of the pretentious twat who goes by the name of Damon Albarn); if you take a listen to Think Tank, you'll see just how much he's missed by that band. There probably aren't enough people on this site who have bothered to follow his solo career, so I'm hoping that this mix of lo-fi Barrett-style acoustic tracks and raging slabs of old-school lo-fi punk will drum up a bit of interest in him (actually, posting the previous mix did just that--lots of folks here have since checked him out, to almost universal acclaim). I initially intended to include a few Blur tracks that featured great contributions from him, but was overwhelmed by the quality of his solo albums and therefore ran out of room. I didn't include his two fine Mission of Burma covers, "That's When I Reach for My Revolver" and "Fame and Fortune", despite their quality, due to my desire to make this an "all-originals" mix. Last songs cut: "Bottom Bunk," "No Good Time," "Waiting," "A Day is Far Too Long," "Don't Be a Stranger," "Too Uptight," "Do What You're Told To," "Burn It Down," "In a Salty Sea", "Song for the Sick", "Lake," "Bitter Tears," "Leave Me Alone," "Bittersweet Bundle of Misery," "Jamie Thomas" and "Good Times." As you can see, I almost have enough tracks there to make a second volume...

I like a man who devotes himself to one artist. That sort of behaviour does not meet with the girlfriend's approval, she likes an eclectic mix.I saw Graham Coxon live in Hyde Park,London,a few weeks back. The whole event was marred by persistent rain.

Nice. At first, I wasn't sure about Graham Coxon - partly because Bitterweet Bundle Of Misery didn't really grab me, and, probably, partly because I was obsessed with Blur from the ages of 12 - 14 and part of that didn't make me as interested as I should perhaps have been. Anyway, my brother got me Happiness in Magazines and I was converted. :) I also love his version of "That's When..." - but I do like the fact that you've decided to make this an all-originals mix. He's an extremely talented man and, although I'm still listening to Albarn & co.'s stuff, it's a shame that they didn't harness that talent.
