Craig Finn, the vocalist/songwriter/rantsmith for both Lifter Fuller and the Hold Steady, is kind of hard to pin down and even harder to like consistently; the former quality makes him kind of intriguing and the latter makes him absolutely ripe for the single-artist treatment. I think the bst description I can muster up is a midwestern Jello Biafra (whose lyrics make him no less than the Irvine Welsh of American indie rock) fronting Blue Oyster Cult. Thanks to Jana for all of the tracks here, as she hipped me to Mr. Finn & Co and supplied all of their material to me.

hold steady have some damn poignant lyrics, i must say, once one overcomes the rants. also, i think the word hoodrat has just about entered my daily vocabulary, thanks craig!
