Comment:
The last 2 mixes I did for Annie comprised of cool, rareish, hard to find & not so hard to find stuff from the 60G_Ts & early 70G_Ts & though she adores that stuff (her faves are early StonesG_ª& itG_Ts been fun opening up the rest of the sixties to her) she keeps banging on about The Beastie Boys whom IG_Tve grown to appreciate of late but never had time for when they first appearedG_ªI always considered The Beasties were for white male teens who went to bed wishing they were black and so to have my girl-friend, born in the early sixties, developing an interest in The Beasties is a tad disconcertingG_ª IG_Tm worried that the next time I see her sheG_Tll be capped, armed and blinged to the max G_" hanging a Mercedes Benz symbol from her neckG_ªaddressing me as Homie/ Holmes (never understood that Sherlock reference), or bitch, pussy and referencing her 5 yr & 11 yr old as crewG_ª so for her Sunday Drive from the South Of England to La Chartre Sur Le Loir (which sits between Le Mans & Tours) I built her one final mix that kicks off with The Beasties. IG_Tm gambling sheG_Tll like MC5 as she seems favourably disposed to tracks that I think she couldnG_Tt possibly like. Brimful Of Asha is a favourite of hers and though it will mean absolutely nothing to her, I followed it up with the object of the song Asha Bhosle herself. I hope that by the time Serge & Jane have climaxed the mix and sheG_Ts safely esconsedin their adopted land (Serge was Russian & Jane British), sheG_Tll leave the car identifying with Jane & not MCA Adam Yauch. But hey who am I kidding ? after Annie watched Born To Boogie, she woke up thinking she was Marc Bolan!!!!
Feedback:
For some strange reason this mix appears as if I have forgotten to type in tracks but it is not the case & is complete.
Cool stuff, Dom, as ever, and like your liner notes! I'm sure she'll love it - the David Holmes, Sex Pistols and Primal Scream cuts are great. A side note about the Beasties that I thought you'd appreciate: you remember the spate of car symbol stealing influenced by Mike D having one on a chain way back when (before the Free Tibet concerts, etc.)? Well, apparently a similar crime wave only managed to reach the Outer Hebrides last year....not that there are probably too many Mercedes Benz symbols to steal out there, but the thought of B-boy islanders is great.
Lots of great stuff here. Many old favs and a couple of newer ones too.
There's nuthin' like a dedication to yr lady! Lots to like here, especially that M.I. theme cover.
Another fine installment in a great series.
I'm with you on the Beastie Boys and there is lots to love on this one.
The Clash,Pistols and Who,what a holy trio.
great one!!!!
Fun mix... I'm especially loving Armed & Extremely Dangerous!
Always love the TV and movie themes (although I had a hard time with U2's 4:4 interpretation of the Mission: Impossible theme song--what made the original cool was the 5:4 time signature, but of course the more covers diverge from the original the more interesting they are) Great stuff on both sides.
Nice!
Much fun, as always Love the notes.
