Debbie Gibson, Daughter of Frankenstein (Electric Youth)
Comment:
It's alive! 1: Song with Handclaps: Joe Bataan & His Mestizo Band's "Rap-O Clap-O" hybrid disco/nuyorican breakdancing rap... 2: Ken Boothe's "Morning" is my song with "sun" in title or reminds me of summer.3: Song w/o words: Jackie Mittoo's "Wishbone" (cover of "carry that weight", electric organ instrumental)4: A cover I like better than original is Sam Cooke's New Orleans-style "Blowin' in the Wind"5: An old song that you heard for 1st time this year is Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66's "Promise of a Fisherman" which also features hand-clapping6: A song that reminds me of 1st relationship: Los Lobos' "Be Still" closed out a semi break up mix7: 7th song - Debbie's "Electric Youth" is the 7th song on that album. Kind of a musical hurdle. If you can get through this one, the rest of the mix is easy. I was 14, which seems a little old for a first celebrity crush.8: Best song from fav band's worst album: Camper's "Might Makes Right": a nice anti-war song on their comeback album, "New Roman Times", sorry guys...9: Song from place where English is not 1st language or a language I don't speak : Serey Sothea's "Retrey Tea Muy", a Cambodian oldie but goodie that sounds vaguely like Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long"..10: Song with your name in title: The Equal's "Michael and the Slipper Tree". 11: Song title = question?: Jeff Lewis' soon to be released "Have You Seen My Time Machine?". 12: A b-side: Public Enemy's "B Side Wins Again" from Fear of a Black Planet.13: Live version better than studio version: Elvis's "Are You Lonesome Tonight" with freakish laughter and random Shakespeare references.14: Song from year you graduated high school: Mercury Rev's "Meth of a Rockette's Kick" from 1993 'Boces', which I fell asleep listening to and flipped my 86 Chevy Nova on the fwy at 3 in the morning. Should have been listening to Ozomatli on the b-side.15: Favorite song from genre/style you usually don't like: Beyonce Knowles' "Work it Out" is also a very sexy song.16: A sexy song: Sister Nancy - "Bam Bam".17: Fav TV theme: Freaks and Geeks, Joan Jett's.18: Song from last album bought/downloaded - Dirty Projectors "I Will Truck" from 'The Getty Address'.19: a song from the 1st AOTM trade - Victoria Williams' "summer of drugs" from presumably the first traded AOTM mix: Eli Lester's Mix @ http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strmixid=1 20: song under 1 minute - Daniel Johnston's "Love Defined" at 57 seconds.21: Song from 1st or most recent artist I paid to see - Fishbone's "Slick Nick, You Devil You"- saw them in high school - an incredible whirling moshpit filled the UCLA ballroom by the end of the show. One of the best shows I've ever seen.22: Song that makes you cry: Fishbone, Iration Title: Name of first celebrity crush + "Daughter of Frankenstein"
Feedback:
Some interesting stuff on here. It must be hard to make a mix that both fits the criteria AND flows well, but this one seems to!
Hey, nicely thought out trainspotters Exhibition, and thanks for the nod.
Nicely done. I especially like the 17-20 stretch. I'll have to check out the Mercury Rev track. Anything that induces a car crash -- whether consciously or unconsciously -- indicates significance. Glad you made it out OK.
