Comment:

I have lost the ability to B.S. my way to a theme or excuse why I but a bunch of disparate songs on a mix together. Let me be perfectly blunt about it: these are songs I love at the moment. Many I heard on the radio for the first time recently (All, Black Crowes, Rev Run), some in movies I saw lately ("Singles"), some I'd never heard before downloading them out of adventurous curiosity (Donots, Tuuli, Clumsy Lovers, the GREAT GREAT Sparks song), some are extensions of bands I'm currently infatuated with (Wheatus, Click Five, Mountain Goats), a few are recommendations from friends (Eisley, Prince), others I've liked for a while but just now got around to fully appreciating them ("Death or Glory", Dropkick Murphys). Are they all the same kind of music? Obviously not. Do they add up to some kind of mood or unifying artistic statement? Yes and no; true, there isn't much "art" to this mix when I've basically just culled together songs I've been listening to for the past week, but on the other hand, I think it makes for an interesting expression of who I am and the things I enjoy and how, possibly, my tastes have evolved to reach this point. It will be neat to look back on these mixes years down the line and muse "wow, I remember that little era there". Until then, these are just genuinely good songs from various branches of the musical spectrum. Okay, so it's 100% pop and/or rock, but as any real fan knows, there are endless permutations within those two umbrella labels. And for what it's worth, I do try to put the songs in some kind of order, so that they flow well and what not

Well, where I live (north of San Diego, CA), there's a station called Jack 100.7, and they're all rebellious about playing any manner of '80s and '90s music. They don't take requests and don't even hire DJs. So it's usually pretty interesting
