Flight 867, you are cleared for departure
Comment:
2005/08/08 --- iqaluit, nunavuta mix of tunes i can't get out of my head, to give to a whole posse of folks leaving the north for warmer climes. 867 is the number of the flight from iqaluit to montreal and is also the area code for both the northwest territories and nunavut.
i tried to look for a lyric for 'be my girl' online, but instead found out that a copy of the cd sold for $300 on ebay. thinking the cover looked familiar, i dug into my binders and sure enough, i had a copy. should i sell ? (the mystery word was 'balladeros').
the neko case track is from her latest (non-new pornographers) live album 'the tigers have spoken'.
bowling for soup are from austin, texas. the old 97's are from dallas, texas. steve earle is from schertz, texas, brave combo is also from texas (austin again), and while cracker is originally from georgia, the only time i've seen them in concert is at 'liberty lunch', a club in austin texas.
3 calgary bands are featured, including the brown eyed susans, the blue shadows and beautiful 2000.
the tracks by jon brion and beck are taken from the soundtrack to the lovely film 'the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind'. bonnie somerville was zach braff's girlfriend and her song got played over the closing credits of his debut film 'garden state'. anthony b's track is taken from the soundtrack to the documentary 'life + debt' about how economic imperialism has devastated jamaican society.
there were 3 versions of 'livin' in america' on black 47's debut cd - this was the version that fit the length of the mix :)
Captain Tractor was a band from Edmonton that broke up. Lowest of the Low is a band from Toronto that has recently reunited and put out a 3d studio album 'sordid fiction'.
franz ferdinand are from scotland, chilly friday are from greenland, o-zone are from romania (see hilarious chair dance) and the pet shop boys are from england.
the barry canning track is featured on the first 'east coast countdown' compilation produced by jimmie inch, a former resident of iqaluit. the dance hall crashers hail from southern california on the opposite corner of the continent.
my all-time favourite band is blue rodeo and they have a new album out called 'are you ready'. you should get a copy.

Feedback:
You rock, senator. I hope you will be good citizen and not get people hooked on that addictive Dragostea Din Tei. (-:
P.S. It was 101 degrees F here today.

Alas, O-Zone is no more: they broke up earlier this year. Nobody I knew cared... hopefully the Art of the Mix community will be more sympathetic...
Interesting blend of artists & styles. Sounds like May Run is worth checking out. Great liner notes!
agree with orchid about the intriguing mix of styles. Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris together: why hadn't I imagined this before!?
