Comment:
this might be the most complicated mix i've ever done... collecting all these tracks took months, but it's been worth it, i think. i've been a singer for longer than i can remember, and the human voice has always been my favorite instrument: thus, we have here a compilation of 24 tracks featuring no instruments whatsoever save the body we're all born with. contains: poems (tracks 3, 16, 24); spirituals (7, 11, 22); rough-hewn folksongs (8, 18, 21, 23) as well as a calm, lingering one (track 20); good old-fashioned collegiate acapella (4, 12, 15, 19 -- the two incarnations of the MIT Chorallaries apparently have no members in common, so i'm comfortable including them both as different artists) as well as imitation collegiate acapella by a classical vocal ensemble (track 2); Eastern European classical choral singing (6, 10, 17); sui-generis originals that miraculously ended up acapella in their original rendition (9, 13, 14); a two-minute slice of psycho acapella noice (track 5); and finally, an exercise in self-gratification (track 1, written and sung by myself, recorded, somehow, in a genuine studio). title is, of course, an extension of Bj÷rk's album title "Med·lla", from which "Sonnets/Unrealities IX" is drawn; opinions differ as to whether this album is entirely acapella, or simply nearly entirely acapella. whatever the case, i'd like to think i'm extending her concept here. enjoy, all..jpg)
