On A Beautiful Evening While Out Walking
Comment:
Very rarely am I drawn to write about a mix, actually this is the first. Considering that I've been a taper since the early 60's that indicates that this is a mixture of artists that have moved me to do so. Allow me to indulge myself and forgive the intrusion.Tour un Breau Soir en me Promenant is Cajun for On a Beautiful Evening While Out Walking. A perfect August night inspired this warm blend of gentle rhythms and balmy themes. Certainly an international flavor is felt as the journey begins with Eddie Vedder ably assisted by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. This blends seamlessly (thanks to a mixing board) into Springsteen's Worlds Apart and the tone is set from there.
5 decades are represented here including vintage Miles Davis (from a 1959 release titled Sketches of Spain) and the illustrious fusion band from the early 70's featuring Wayne Shorter, Weather Report.
The tone is of peaceful offerings as evidenced by Ziggy Marley's plea for peace and unity In The Name Of God and the tantalizing pairing of guitar virtuoso Ry Cooder with Ali Farka Toure an African musician of great skill.
The Beatles remind us that as within so without and my favorite transition of the mix is on side two blending Sting's Send Your Love into Beth Orton's Paris Train. The 70's are represented at the close of side one with Steely Dan's ode to a prostitute and even my least favorite musical period, the 80's are reflected with the appearances of Bryan Ferry and the incredibly talented T-Heads.
5 decades, 20 artists united by vision, rhythm and tremendous substance. I think that I'll shut up now, thank you for the time and drop in the cassette (yes, I'm old fashioned but far from over the hill) into the car stereo and go for a drive.

Feedback:
oohhhh, Feat. slipping under the radar!!! this is unnacceptable. especially with your inclusion from sketches of spain, the single greatest jazz album of all time. this is a great catalogue... interesting to see where your interests lie in each decade... keep up the good work!
