Comment:

What do the first 13 tracks on this disc have in common? The answer is summed up in the final and hidden track. What is it? Be the first to tell me and get a free copy, no trade necessary. (Though of course anyone can trade for it and get the solution.)  [album art full size]

Nice concept, excellent mix, and I have NO clue... seems to be a gender thing, obviously...

I have no clue, but this looks like an interesting listen.

Not a gender thing, not with Berlin in there....

They all seem to be about revolution of some kind... and a nice mix to boot.

Good answer, but not the one I had in mind. It's a much more concrete thread binding them.

The title made me think that it might have something to do with wind... Almost all the song mention either blowing (crossfire hurricane, wind in the sails, every breath you take, let it out, let it in...) or heat or cold (that ain't cool, hot blooded, etc.) In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida sounds very storm-like to me, although it is missing the lyrics. So I'm probably way off, but my wild guess is that "the answer's blowin' in the wind". (By the way, nice mix!) -Mike

Thanks! Good stabs all, but completely off base. The solution is a song.

You got me stumped on the quiz. I'll guess "Come Sail Away" by Styx, but it's a shot in the dark.

That Styx tune is just not "weird" enough.

Ooooh this is challenging! "Bad Weather" by the Supremes? All the songs involve something that might indicate a bad weather day: hurricane, cold, hot, wet, windy, burnin', sting, in-a-gadda-da-vida...... (okay maybe I'm stretching it with that last one :)

It doesn't have to do with weather. Here's another clue: the hidden track is more recent than any other song on the disc, though not by much.

I'm afraid you got all of us stumped! I'm sure the answer will be obvious once you tell us. You are going to tell us, aren't you?

Hmmm... I'll have to think about that. Part of me would rather have people trade for the disc (hint hint) and hear the solution, because I think it's more effective that way.

But you're right, whether you're familiar with the hidden track or not, the solution will be a forehead smacker. It's probably not a familiar track, at least not to hardcore fans of the artist, but it does neatly unite the 13 preceding tracks (and only those 13 tracks) in a way that no other song could. I promise I've played fair with the solution (though I fear some listeners may groan).

Also it has nothing to do with sailing.

Is there a limit on attempted answers to this tantalizing conundrum? Well, never mind. Here's my first ineffectual thrust at it. U2 - The Unforgettable Fire

Sorry -- a shot in the dark won't hit the mark. It's highly unlikely this riddle can be solved with random guesses. (Btw, I've scattered a some clues throughout my previous responses.)

Thank you for your prompt reply. In my defence this was not a "shot in the dark". Nonetheless, my tortuous reasoning is irrelevant as it led nowhere.

I will try again.

As to the mix itself, for all that it's purpose is a riddle, it is an enjoyable collection of some seminal musical moments.

I am new to AOTM and if I my unsolicited ramblings are an irritation I apologise. With this in mind I would be grateful for any information about proper procedure. For instance, how does trading work. I am excited by the prospect but need help with the mechanics.

Thanks for your time and effort. Be forewarned, more "guesses" will follow.
