If you’re ready to roll with a different kind of Christmas, hark to some herald angels whose halos may be a little bit bent, as they offer up their own brand of quirky carols. Rock ’n’ roll pioneers the Everly Brothers tell the tale of a lonesome hitchhiker stuck out on a snowbound road on the holiday heart-render “Christmas Eve Can Kill You.” Tom Waits isn’t exactly aiming for Hallmark Card material either as he narrates a story from the seedy underbelly of the season on the bluesy, blowsy “Christmas Card from a Hooker In Minneapolis.” But if those lowdown jingle-bell jams get you too glum to trim your tree, try Jimmy Buffett’s snow-free, sun-soaked island-life ode to “Christmas In the Caribbean.”
