All of the animals are occasionally murderous.
Comment:
Another one of my ambivalent single-artist mixes (see my Ministy or Jeff Buckley mixes for similar feelings, although I like these fellas much better than either of those artists), compiling my favorite songs from one of my most listened-to bands in the late '80s and early '90s (who I can still listen to and enjoy, albeit not as much, which is more than I can say for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and/or Faith No More, two of my other favorites from the period). Despite the fact that I'd like to pummel Perry Farrell and would like to see Dave Navarro fade from the music scene as soon as possible, I can't deny the generally high level of songwriting quality in this band (not that the performances and production are bad, either--they hold up much better than many of the "alternative" bands of the era). That said, there wasn't much in the "last tracks cut" department... I think that "No One's Leaving" and "Whores" were the last two.Feedback:
Nice one, Rob. (And I get to be the first to comment, yay!) I have to admit, first of all, that I wish I knew Jane's Addiction better than I do - and perhaps if I did, I would be a bigger fan. That said, I do like them and I agree with you about the level of songwriting. They're definitely one of the bands from that particular era and / or enre whose appeal remains for a while. And the other week, I heard "Jane Says" again, and remembered how much I like it! This is well put-together.
Nice work Rob. I never listened to them much, but I do break out the RHCP once in a while.
ha! I love that you didn't struggle with picks for this band... well done.
Now, this is a band I happen to know quite well. This is nicely done. Stop! and Three Days are great listens. Which version of Mountain Song did you use live/album?
I haven't listened to this band since I was 10 & I've forgotten most of these songs. Maybe it's time for a renaissance. Track 2 is definitely unforgettable & irresistible. (as well as 7 and 11 of course... thank god you didn't include their cover of Sympathie Pour Le Devil). But I agree with you about Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro -- without a doubt two of the nastiest men in the history of the world.
Looks like you've assembled all the indespensible Jane's Addiction songs. I've never considered myself a fan, but I like most of these songs, especially Jane Says and Stop! And can't someone vote off Dave Navarro on Rock Star:INXS?
I never cared much for 'em (Perry's voice is definitely one of those love-it-or-hate-it types), though they did a bang-up cover of "Ripple" on the otherwise lame Grateful Dead tribute disc some time ago. And I'll definitely take 'em over the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who I've always found annoying and dull.
