Comment:

ca. the mid 90s an older girl chides me for liking both lagwagon and oi polloi, obviously incongruous musical acts. and of course, wanting to be "cool" and "worldy" like her, i just backed down in cowardice and swore off the goleta pop punk in favor of the political scots. over the years, i would learn, and appreciate the value of differing, diverging preferences and integrate this philosophy into making mixes. why NOT include stevie wonder and crass on the same tape, when there's evidently so much amazing music out there? to each her own, you know?

this is one of the many odes i've made to the mix tape, after having read the thurston moore-edited tome. not everything fits (blossom dearie, operation ivy, mu330, oasis), nor was included everything i had wanted to include (julie doiron, huggy bear, submission hold, carole king)...but you get the basic idea: some songs i love, i loved, i remember loving.

some of these are favorite songs of mine, too: kings of conv, op ivy, that dog... i'm all for simultaneous use of incongruous acts on mixtapes. nicely done!
