Comment:

A super-quick "for-the-hell-of-it" mix (featuring several of my usual suspects and a few newer discoveries) to maximize the fact that my burner was actually working consistently last night. Not the most earth-shattering mix that I've ever put together, but a good listen, nonetheless. Title from the Jimmy Webb song exquisitely rendered here by Zumpano. Btw, the new Baxter Dury album (Floor Show) is fucking tremendous [bettered this year only by the newest Devendra Banhart album (Cripple Crow)] and that Gary Higgins reissue (Red Hash) really is as good as all of the music-geek magazines (and Bill Chesny) say it is...

Great stuff, Rob. I love that Gary Higgins disc. Has been in heavy rotation for a while for me. That Devendra album is growing on me, for sure.

Holy shit! I used the exact same Zumpano cover on a recent mix. I probably should post it.

Looks like a page ripped from my want list. I've tried fitting PE or the Misfits onto several mixes with no luck. Still waiting to hear the latest Modey Lemon & Baxter Dury discs & to dig out some Blue Orchids & Associates for another spin. I'm even quite interested in Devendra's latest after relistening to Nino Rojo after our last conversation. If nothing else, 2005 will be remembered by me for being the year of the freak-folk reissue as I've recently been enjoying record geek hyped CD releases by Comus & Ed Askew in addition to Gary Higgens.

freak folk re-issues indeed. You got into Circulus yet? I've always loved the pure energy in track 11

What I know, I like. What I don't know, I don't like -- at least until them. Then I'll probably like them.

Meant to say "at least until I HEAR them." I hate it when I hit the submit button prematurely.

Wonderful. Love the Ike (and, uhm, Tina) through Go-Betweens bit especially.

Hehe, I like Zeke's comment and have to agree - this is the kind of thing I'd have to work on for ages! Looks excellent, overall. Love that Modey Lemon pick, and the Ry Cooder, Tom Waits and Associates. Also, just as an aside, I have been thinking about Bob Dylan all week since I saw the Martin Scorsese film, which was shown in 2 parts on TV here. So, every time I see a Dylan song mentioned now, I go and ponder a bit more.
