A slight remark turns to shark
Comment:
This one's for Simon Reynolds, gaucho and lo-fi jr. I admit it: to the best of my knowledge, I'd never even *heard* of these guys until I read the Reynolds book. After reading his description (and noticing the rave reviews for the recent reissue of their first album), I knew that I had to check them out. Think Sparks filtered through Bowie's Berlin period with a dash of Kate Bush and their own twisted sensibility, for good measure. Very, very good. Last tracks cut: "Message Oblique Speech," "Bap de la Bap," "Ulcragyceptimol," "Straw Towels," "18 Carat Love Affair," and "Australia."Feedback:
given your review in combination with these other quality folks, I think I'll check 'em out too. i'm amazed at how quickly you can make mixes of this caliber... if I was John Henry, you'd be the steam drill.
Crikey! Party Fears Two was a massive hit in the UK, but I had no idea that the Associates were this prolific or as cool as you have described. Maybe it's time to give them another try.
They seem interesting... I shall pursue them.
A VERY under rated band IMO.
yes, some old faves here, do you have any Alan Rankine ? looking for his answer to Morrisseys "William it was really nothing" which was about Bill Mckenzie and Alans answer was "Yes Stephen it was really something" but I've nver heard it ;(
Unknown to me.
Are you sure you are a lawyer and not a saleperson? I'm ready to drive this one away.
Can't stand McKenzie's voice it drives me up the wall!
A band that I like and dislike at the same time. Yet I still haven't given up on them after all of these years becasue there's something there that's compelling me to return.
Still gotta give 'em another listen, but I'll be thinking about your take on their sound when I do. One thing's for sure, I sure love Nude Spoons.
