Comment:

While I realize there are a few Galaxie 500 loyalists here, I think Dean Wareham's post-G500 "supergroup" was the far better act, as Wareham moved beyond G500's post-Velvet drones to a fuller, catchier sound with more great tunes than you can shake a stick at; IMHO, I'd easily rank Luna among the top 5 or so bands of the 90s (alongside Pavement, Yo La Tengo, and Guided by Voices). I revamped and expanded an old mix to cover their entire career (as they broke up earlier this year), making a chronological run through their extensive chronology of albums, ep's, and b-sides (including a lot of superb covers). Though their later albums were far inferior to the first few, Dean still managed to churn out a few great songs per disc, enough that I ended up with an extra hour of music that I had to chop just to fit this onto 2 discs.

gotta be honest: I don't know too much about this band. which is atrocious, since they are highly reputable. however, I'm certainly a galaxy fan, so maybe I should try living outside the box for awhile ;) nice work.

Wow, that's freaky. I put a Luna song on my mix, and I click "view previous mix" and it's a Luna compilation CD. Heh.

Definitely one of the greatest unknown bands of all time. I've never met anyone who knew this of this band and did not like them. My 14 year old son heard Indian Summer a few months ago, and immediately added Luna to his list of favorite bands.

Weird - I made a Luna mix CD for myself a couple of years ago, and I gave it the exact same title!

I think Rhino is going to release a commercial best of in 2006.

sorry, babe - i'm a g500 fan through and through. this band never did it for me. too much happy VU, not enough sad VU :-) oddly enough, i just saw that 80s movie that britta was in. it was "great". 'indian summer' is clearly a great cover, though. same with 'bonnie & clyde'.

Nice job. I like G500. but prefer Luna. I wouldn't put them in the top 5 of the 90's, but they were always reliable for some killer tracks.

Duh. I tried to right my ignorance of this band by looking for a few tracks to download -- and couldn't find a thing. Talk about obscure, etc. Ah well. I seem always to be out of the "hip" loop. Hence the reason for comments like this on mixes like these.

Great collection here, but for some reason the Galaxie 500 stuff sticks with me more.
