Comment:

I love 50's & early 60's instrumentals.Often wrongly consigned to the dumpster labeled "Novelty", they are, in fact one of the base chromosomes of rock & roll's DNA.That's where many of the virtuosi who came to prominence later in the decade cut their teeth. It's where the idea that rock & roll could be a communal activity based on producing (playing) rather than consumption first flourished. Most importantly, it showed that dexterity on your chosen axe was just as much a magnet for babes as singing or sporting prowess. This is the first of two put together for the guys at work. No pretensions to being definitive or anything just a few tunes I really dig and wherever possible, I tried to avoid the over-familiar stuff. Vol 2 -The UK to follow soon
