Comment:

This started (and mostly remained) a mix of some fun and enjoyable rock stuff that was on my laptop and had been unloved by past mix projects. The title and cover are a play on a beloved tune by Belle and Sebastian, a band included here. Allow me, however, a slight detour to mention the weirdness of taking 20 mp3s in late August and throwing them into a folder 'cos they sound good... only to revisit them in early September and find the persistent themes of death, sleep, urban decay, and, erm, water a little distracting. I mean I'm not gonna wax superstitious or nothin'. This applies more vaguely to some songs than others -- and to be truthful, most of them not at all. But it's a little eerie to try and escape from the death and destruction on one's mind (and on one's television) by turning to Swamp Dogg's story of a man "up from the bayou" decrying the ills of the modern city; the Beach Boys' mournful reading of lines like "Columnated ruins domino" and "Surf's up, aboard a tidal wave"; and, damn, all of "Sponge" (http://www.remrock.net/remrock/lyrics/others.html?song=sponge). And listen to Thom Yorke murmuring, "baby alligators in the sewers grow up fast"; in this context, an extra layer of disquiet blankets an already spooky moment. But anyway, enough of that. Just wanted to tell a skewed story. Mostly this is just another one of those "listen to these cool tracks I like" discs. Enjoy.
