Comment:

Although I am gothic, I strongly believe that goth is very close to punk and a true music fan will study the roots of the music they listen to. Although I am not punk, there is alot of punk I really like; including bands such as the misfits, the ramones,The Stooges and the clash.
anybody new to punk be sure to check out this mix.

Hmmm! I don't see a lot of Punk on this mix or at least the tracks you chose, excepting The Sex Pistols & Ramones, are not considered punk. The first 2 albums by The Clash are Punk (though if your name is Johnny Rotten or you are a member of The Punk collective Crass or Siouxsie Sioux then The Clash simply weren't punk but Rock Stars pretending to be Punk.) The Banshees who by album 3 had abandoned punk (though perhaps not it's values) were, along with The Cure about to create Goth which in truth had more in common with Glam Rock than Punk. More Ziggy less Iggy. I was lucky to see The Banshees tour JU JU in '81 which is viewed as one of the first forays, album wise, into what is commonly known as Goth. I also caught Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, Flesh For Lulu, The Birthday Party (definitely not Goth) The Gun Club & of course The Cramps who, like The Gun Club were linked to The Psycho Billy movement that included amongst others The Milkshakes etc. The Stooges are not Punk, though I grant you Punk's roots, or at least US Punk roots would cite The Stooges, MC5 and many of the bands featured on The Nuggets Box set as being a major influence. Which isn't to say I don't like your mix cos I do esp The Yeah Yeahs track, The Stooges, The Cramps..in fact most of it!

I agree with Dom and like Dom I like this mix. For my take on what is a true punk mix, check out my It's Not A Sound, It's An Attitude.

You might also dig bands represented on a box set entitled Cash for Chaos. It's reasonably priced and provides a really nice introduction to various punk bands...including many of these here.

Got to see the YYYs at Irving Plaza ... new york. They definately have a punk attitude...but I'm not sure Maps would fall within that category. But, then again, who the hell am I to say? Actually, to hell with what I have to say...though I have grown to love punk music...I am as far from "punk" as Punky Brewster (which proven by that sentence, alone).

ditto the coments. Not punk but a great disc (if short?). Punk is definately an attitude - John Cooper Clarke and Patti Smith, punk poets?
