Comment:

The fourth and final volume [Note: I changed my mind and posted a fifth volume on 12/14/05]. This was the hardest to compile thus far. I tried very, very hard to NOT include "Another Girl..." (I've made myself very sick of the song and have used it on at least two other mixes here, but it IS one of my top five favorite songs of the '70s), "September Gurls" (see the previous parentheses, except that it IS my favorite song of the '70s), "No Matter What" (same, more or less), "New Rose" (ditto, more or less) and "Rowche Rumble" (again, ditto). It just seemed as though it would be dishonest to include other songs by Badfinger, the Fall, and the Damned, especially, as those tunes tower over the rest of their respective catalogs, IMHO (although I REALLY love the Fall, in particular). Title from T. Rundgren.

Rob, this is great. And there is NO shame in loving September Gurls. It is impossible to love September Gurls too much. Carry your head high, and wave your Chilton flag as much as you damned well please!

The four discs are pretty cool, which as you admitted, is tough to pull off. There's so much that happened in the 70s, and in any decade really, but you managed to do a fantastic job here.

"No Side to Fall In" and "Me and Paul" are two of my very favorite songs. Of course, so are about half a dozen more of these.

Great. It's really interesting to see the thought process here.

Again, & I repeat myself, solid stuff through out & I must commend you for including country, soul, folk, punk & rock. I'd find the task of choosing my fave tracks from the 70's nigh on impossible.

This is all great, though I do have to disagree. "No Matter What" has no competition for best pop song of the 70s.

I'm too tired to comment on all four individual mixes in this series, but this looks like a good retrospective of tasty tunes from the 70s. I've been on a 60s kick myself the last few years and am just starting to explore more of the music from the 70s. A friend recently sent me Rhino Record's entire Have A Nice Day series, which is more AM radio oriented that what you have here.

Too awed to comment on these individually, Rob. Same as my well worn copies of your sixties series, nearly every tune's a fave either from back in the day to recently discovered overlooked gems. I'd like to nominate Fela as a M.I.A. artist for the mythical volume five.

May I remind you that your 60s series also included the amazing Jazz and Soul volumes, so technically it was a 6 disc series, and therefore, this series should be expanded.
