Comment:
Ramadhan Kareem ! During the month of Ramadhan, Muslims fast and abstain for approximately 30 days, until the first day of Syawal, when Eid alfitr is celebrated. Fasting during Ramadhan begins from the break of dawn until the sun sets (usually marked by a cannon being sounded). While infidels are not forced to practise the same fast and abstinence as Muslims, they are subject to a code of conduct and decorum, especially when in public. This means, no eating or drinking - no smoking - no chewing gum - no laughing or raucus behaviour in public and observing modesty and decency in dressing. This has been my first Ramadhan while living in the Middle East and this mix is my attempt at reliving the experience. It has been interesting, to say the least (even though Dubai is comparatively western in outlook). There has been no live music, no belly dancing and much to my wife's horror, no coffee mornings for the girls. This mix is not arabic; it is more middle eastern and is for sitting in the garden with a Sheesha (apple is my favourite) and enjoying the evenings now that they have cooled down and the humidity has gone. Thanks to the gorgeous Nest of Vipers for helping out (the obvious Vancouver/Dubai links!!).
Feedback:
jah wobble,that's cool with me
Where the fuck did you get that pic? As for most of the mix, you've got me guessing mon ami?
Nice, especially the Tom Waits. Please send some sunshine to Michigan.
Awesome mix. Mint flavoured sheesha is my favourite.
It looks truly awesome!
That Gabriel pick really sets the mood for this mix. Nice one.
Very nice cover! Now if only I could get my eyes on the tracklist.
Very nice - although I have to say that I'm catching this at the end of Ramadan. So, Eid Mubarak! This is really nicely thought out, and lots of nice picks like Jah Wobble and Tom Waits.
Eid Mubarak indeed, Siobhan. Thanks.
Ramadan-tastic! I suspect track 3 is especially near and dear to your heart.
