Comment:

My first AoTM trade, and with der ubermixenfuhrer Rob Conroy. Recorded entirely from vinyl so the sound is overlaid with the warm fuzz of crackle and pop. Opens with a typically bonkers Lee Perry production, moving into a kinetic Jammy dub and Colourbox's fine, fine cover of the Jacob Miller classic. Michael Head's underrated Fountains flow into a Clor B-side then Copey's Elevators cover (didn't Roky Erickson live in Pittsburg in the 80s?) and shroomy vikings Dungen. Relocating to Brazil we have noo-wave 'Panico' and Gal's fruity slice of arabic tropicalia before my two favourite versions of Randy Newman songs. Imagine the Jackson 5 produced by George Clinton for 'Misdemeanour'. The Go! Team electrocute Robinson Crusoe and Richard Hawley goes all Scott 4 prior to dead poet Betjeman's jaunty ride and Christy's magical reel. I can't resist another dip into the 'Amarcord' soundtrack or Tony and Bill's peerless union. Back to Rio with Elis, find a lost S.O.U.L. and journey back in time with Yusef. We finish with one of the great soul vocal performances and Julien Clerc camping out with a suitably theatrical finale. The disc is in the post, Rob. Enjoy.

Very, very nice indeed! (And you're doing a very good thing in trading with Rob.) I like the Christy Moore, William Bell, Dusty Springfield and Julian Cope. Loving your mixes generally!

My God, I know one song on this--Dusty's absolutely sublime version of "I Think It's Going to Rain Todsy"--and I love that, so I'm going to guess that the rest is great. I know other songs by Jerry Butler, Richard Hawley, Julian Cope, WIlliam Bell & Tony Bennett (with Gil Evans, no less--very nice), but not these... I'm looking forward to it. Your disc will be sent out on Wednesday, good sir.

Oops, I meant "BILL Evans," not Gil Evans (and hey, I prefer Bill to Gil, so it's all good). And perhaps I should say "good madame" instead of "good sir"? heh

All I know is the Dungen and Lateef tracks. Looks mighty interesting though.

Hmm. More than half of these are unfamiliar to me, but it looks good. A fine description, too. It's like eating out at a good restaurant: Everything on the menu sounds delicious even if you haven't yet tried it.
