Comment:

For the hell of it. And sort of for Jen, I guess, since I thought of her when selecting a few of these tracks (she asked me nicely for a mix that would feature some stuff that I've heard recently that she'd like; she's dubbing me some stuff in return). Thanks to Vinz Clortho for the Human League song and to Jana for the ABSOLUTELY FUCKING STUPENDOUS Essra Mohawk album... I can't believe I hadn't come across her first album, Primordial Lovers, before... and yes, I see the irony in my inclusion of "Losing My Edge" on this mix. ;-) Sometimes it's fun to fuck with others' perception of you. Also, I wanted to mention that, while I'm not a fan of hers by any stretch of the imagination, several tracks on the new Fiona Apple album (at least the unreleased version of it, since I haven't heard the released version) are surprisingly good. And I also just heard the latest Beck album for the first time; again, he's not a favorite of mine (although I like even his worst stuff better than just about everything by Fiona Apple), but there are a few great songs on it. Title from the Human League.

Really excellent, Rob. Some wonderful picks, including Pulp and The La's. I love that Young Marble Giants track. And I think I'll have to check out that album since it comes with such a huge recommendation! :)

Excellent. I especially like the Human League. And I'm glad to see Genesis on here.... I really like them in theory, I just can't enjoy them in practice, despite numerous attempts to do so, including under the influence of every drug known to mankind and even while pretending Phil Collins is holding a gun to my head threatening to kiss me while his nasty sidekick Peter Gabriel coos in my ear.

Great collection and nice to see the Essra Mohawk opener. She came out of Philly in the 60s and played around locally becoming popular in the early 70s. Primordial Lovers from 1970 is actually her second album. She recorded an earlier album on Frank Zappa's Bizarre label in 1967. She briefly joined the Mothers of Invention and performed as Uncle Meat. Her 1975 album is a classic. She is still releasing CDs and touring.

Plenty of musical gems you've assembled on one a CDR. I used a line from a Human League song as well in a mix title. Brilliant minds think alike ;)
