I know nothing and I'm overjoyed.
Comment:
My "Best of 2005" mix, as revised on 1/2/06. I recently saw the latest issue of Ice and realized that nothing else of note is being released between now and the end of the year; with that in mind, I thought I'd strike while the iron was hot. Although there's a chance that I'll change this, I think I've listened enough to all of the albums under consideration to feel fairly confident that these *are* my picks for the year. I am interested, however, in those great releases that my friends here think I may have missed. For the record, the last songs cut were "Speak Your Mind" by the Works, "It Kills" by Stephen Malkmus, "Mrs. Bartolozzi" by Kate Bush, "Miss Patsy" by Richard Thompson, "Promise to You Girl" by Paul McCartney and "Dead Cowboy" by Lightning Bolt. Enjoy.Feedback:
Nice. I'll have to check out the picks I don't know here!
Really great, Rob. Several artists that will probably end up on my list, as well. (LCD Soundsystem, Devendra, Six Organs, Hold Steady, Mars Volta, White Stripes). One of my favorites this year, that I'm not sure if you've heard is the Black Mountain self titled disc. awesome stuff.
Looks good Rob.
That makes it official, Martha wins the "Best Wainwright of 2005" award!
Lots of great choices here, Rob. I haven't thought about making my best of 05, but a lot of these will probably make the cut. And, I'd have to disagree with you on the Malkmus disc. I think its better than a few of the albums culled from your mix. But that's me. Anyway, great mix.
Top choices!
Some really nice choices here, and I think you've definitely chosen the best of the bunch. Glad to see you've put LCD Soundsystem on there, as well as Dirty Three and Sigur Ros.
Nice one Rob. As Shawn said a lot of these will probably be on my year end list.
Looks GREAT. I liked the Richard Hawley album along with a lot of this.
Great selections here, Rob. I was happy to hear it first-hand. Not a bad year for music, eh?
uptown top ranking
Nice one. A few things here I need to check out.
Well done. Like the others, I now have some checking out to do.
A few I'd put on mine. But, I'd have to find room for: Animal Collective, Black Mountain, Sufjan Stevens, Danger Doom, M.I.A., New Pornographers, Black Dice, Deerhoof, Wolf Parade, Banhart, Wilderness, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Edan, Sleater-Kinney, Shining, M83, Jack Rose, Earth, Jesu, Wolf Parade, Paavoharju (from what I've listened to - don't have the album, yet), Wilderness, Caribou, Venetian Snares, Mu and High on Fire. Still have a few to look into, as well: Matt Sweeney & Bonnie "Prince" Billy to name one.
But, all in all, all of my REAL favorite "NEW TO ME" tracks/ablums were either re-released this year, finally obtained this year, or shared by fellow AoTMers.

Thanks for posting the handy shopping list... I have about half my annual mix done but tend to burn mine in January or February so that I can free ride on others' mixes and do a bit of last-minute shopping. Oddly enough, I think you & I will have zero overlap this year; so far I anticipate including something from the afore-referenced Malkmus album, My Morning Jacket, Sufjan Stevens, Death Cab For Cutie, Bettie Serveert, Teenage Fanclub, and various others that I can't remember off the top of my head.
Great mix Rob, haven't started mine yet but 'Back Room' by - Editors - is hands down the best album I've heard this year (or for a few years to that matter) Whilst 2005 was a decent year I don't think it was better than 04, which was a seriously good year to my ears. I'm now off to check out what I don't know from this mix.
It's it that time already!?!
A LOT to like here, nice picks.

Looks good. Surprised not to see Sufjan Stevens- I see a couple of the others have mentioned him.
Looks good Rob, though you're a bit premature. The new Britney Spears remix CD, slated for a December release, is going to be a corker. Wish I knew at least one song on this mix.
Excellent summary of the undeniable quality occurring in Official Rock Music at this exact point in time & space. (I think y'all are a bit to attached to the "here" & "now", however).
Good for Richard Thompson - that guy has got more staying power even than the Stones. Only know a few here.
Sorry I'm late on this one Rob. Since our tastes usually overlap I avoided this one 'til I could compile my own. Guess I didn't need to worry as there's only three crossover artists & only one of those with the same tune. Antony & Devendra did nothing for me. I should probably check out that Baxter Dury & Six Organs of Admittance & your endorsment of the latest Richard Thompson & Will Oldham releases have intrigued me. Happy holidays to you sir & I hope for a better 2006 for the both of us.
