Comment:
This is the mix I made for the October round of a mix club I'm in. It's called "Just Kidding..." because I made two covers; the outside cover was titled "Gregorian Chants of 1125-1140 As Performed by the Monks of Eingebildet Monastery, Falschunstadt, Liechtenstein, 26 October, 1997." I wrote a long letter about how I'd been traveling in Liechtenstein and had heard a group of monks chanting and had recorded it and treasured that recording ever since then. I made a tracklist that included Latin state mottoes and translations of phrases like "Beam me up, Scotty" and "Only you can prevent forest fires." I put the real cover inside the other one, along with a short explanation of why I had chosen certain songs. My recipient totally fell for it. I'd had the idea a couple months before, and at first I thought I'd wait until April to play my mix joke, but Halloween has pranks, too, and I really couldn't wait any longer. The actual mix is pretty straightforward Halloweeny stuff. The last track is by a high school band whose name I can't remember. I found it somewhere on the internet, and I either didn't write the school's name down or iTunes decided I didn't need to know it when I transferred all my music off my computer and back on after wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the OS. "I Put a Spell on You" and "Dracula's Tango" will be on every Halloween mix I make ever. They're my favorite appropriate songs.
