Comment:

I thought this was going to be the final volume, but it can't be--there will be a bonus disc. (Of course this means that I'll have to add a "bonus disc" to my '60s series from '04, as well....) Despite the hours that this took solidify, there are simply far too many tracks that had to be cut and that must be included in this series: "Dallas" (the Flatlanders--which was originally on this mix before I revised it), "Whole Lotta Rosie" (AC/DC--ditto), "Cuckoo Cocoon" (Genesis--ditto), "Check Your Bucket" (Eddie Bo--ditto), "Just Like Darts" (the Real Kids--ditto), "Cherry Red" (Groundhogs), "Song to the Siren" (Tim Buckley), "Fearless" (Pink Floyd), "It Don't Come Easy" (Ringo Starr), "Domino" (the Cramps), "Every Picture Tells a Story" (Rod Stewart--which might *not* be included, since I've already sort of represented him on the Faces cut from Vol. 3), "The Air That I Breathe" (the Hollies), "We'll Get Over" (the Staple Singers), "Dread Beat an' Blood" (Linton Kwesi Johnson), "Thunder Road" (Bruce Springsteen), "Sister Anne" (the MC5), "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" (the Adverts), "(Is Anybody Going To) San Antone" (Doug Sahm), "Get Up, Stand Up" (the Wailers), "Be My Lover" (Alice Cooper), "The Red and the Black" (Blue Oyster Cult), "Fisherman" (the Congos), "Tonight" (the Raspberries), "Krautrock" (Faust), "Hero" (Neu!), "Ball of Confusion" (the Temptations) ... the list could go on (and will go on, at least in my head). Admittedly, not quite enough prog-rock was included in this series, but I figured that my prog mix (We're only as strong as the weakest link in the chain) had already covered that ground. Title from Vic Godard. Thanks to p the swede for the Subway Sect song and to James Russell (from way back when) for "Silver Machine."

you have managed to get some magical stuff here, Rob. Queen's seventies output has always been a secret guilty pleasure of mine.

Shit, Rob, this is fuckin' great! All over the place in a very good way. Maybe my favorite volume of this series. (I don't think I've commented on any of 'em too much, but they're definitely all good). Man, I had just gotten to work this Saturday morning at the Weave and friggin' "Fat Bottomed Girls" was playing at a fairly high volume (for 10 am) on a busy, snow-scared day. Hi-larious. Needless to say, the store manager quickly changed the station to something "less offensive". Anyways, it was a pretty funny moment at the time. Seriously, AWESOME mix, my friend.

As you know Rob I'm a big fan of your 70s Series which is inevitably going to end up in 10 volumes, hopefully leatherbound in every school library on the planet.

Are we really supposed to ignore this? It's way too good for that! Just make another volume -- I'm sure nobody will mind.

Excellent mix of artists I don't know how you got through five volumes before using & some so forward thinking I'm amazed whenever I hear them & remind myself they're a quarter of a century old.

Very nice indeed. Love that last stretch from Kate Bush -> Rickie Lee Jones. Love the subway Sect and Devo too. Despite the fact that it is difficult to include everything you'd like, you've got a really comprehensive, well thought-out series here.

Looks like a great series Rob. I'll have to go back and check it out the earlier volumes.
