my manager and i always stay late to shelve in the childrens department at borders. the holiday season was sucking pretty hardcore; i having broken up with another "soulmate" and her just having a shitty time with life. we were focusing on a particular section when all we heard was "i am gonna make it, through this year, if it kills me." and we were like, "hell yeah". i gave her this mix on new years eve with a card that said, "whaddaya know.. we made it." it's a little bit contentment, a little bit melancholy.. but mostly it's like snow and sadness and maybes, a whole lotta maybes.

Story of my life, this mix. Superbly crafted for maximum effect. And I too felt a sort of epiphanic commisseration (two "m"s?) when I first heard "This Year". Wonderful song. Normally I would decry the use of "Float on" just because it's been done to death, but it fits the mood well so I can't complain. In fact I'm glad that you found a worthy use for it :)

Glad you made it. Some gorgeous tracks are on this mix in particular Elliot, Tori and Aimee. And the Portishead track ( Sour Times? ) is just wonderful.

I love that Mountain Goats song, great mix theme. Ups on Waits, Nico, Smith, Petty, and The Velvet Underground. If you like Bright Eyes I think "If Winter Ends" would fit perfectly on this mix.
