"Choose another's form and make it THINE!"
Comment:
Ostensibly for my friend K.C., who'd never heard of them when I was singing "Death Cab for Cutie" a couple of weeks ago. See also lo-fi jr's fine Bonzos collection from 2001. Last tracks cut: "Piggy Bank Love," "Ali Baba's Camel," "Tubas in the Moonlight," "We Were Wrong," "Rockaliser Baby," "Keynsham," "Rhinocratic Oaths" and "You Done My Brain In."Feedback:
A worthy head nod to a fine band and a great mix.
A wonderful introduction. If your friend is not sold by Big Shot i'd be very surprised.
I heard the lead singer is really a hyena.
Worthy mix, Rob.
Looks interesting. Dont know The Bonzo Dog Band/The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
all great.
very good / the monty pythons of music!!!
I've always wanted to hear them, and it's hard to track down a worthy hits collection that isn't an overpriced import. How similar is this to Innes' work as the Rutles? I'd really be into snagging this from you some time.
a really nice collection
cool
Bonzo Dog bull's eye!
I must confess that I can only take their japery in small doses...but a band worthy of a Best Of!
You met the one person who didn't know that DCFC took their name from a Bonzo Dog song? Rare indeed!
Love the Bonzos, and this is about as solid of a best-of as you're gonna get. "Hunting Tigers..." is one of my favorite songs ever. And I commend you on you on your restraint of not using "Intro/Outro" to start or finish your mix.
A super special group and mix!
Yay! Well done on producing this one - some of my favourite songs are c/o Bonzo Dog. I always think of Terry gilliam hanging from the ceiling at the Hollywood Bowl, singing "I'm The Urban Spaceman", before eventually exploding. Ah, memories. Great stuff.
My first day back to work after a grueling bout of stomach flu, trapped in a literal logjam of traffic behind an upturned lumber-hauling truck, and I've got the copy of this you sent me playing and not minding one bit. This is really terrific. I only knew a couple of their songs (i.e. "Big Shot," "Urban Spaceman"), and really enjoyed the rest. Kinda wish they did more straight, non-novelty songs (a la "Ready-Mades," oft-covered by Yo La Tengo), as they could write a helluva hook when they tried. Thanks for assembling this.
