Comment:

I generally wait until February to put together my annual Best-Of mix, which gives me a few extra weeks to pick up some discs I missed that show up on other AOTM year-end comps or in year-in-review articles. That's still the case this year; I've got a couple items on the way that I recently ordered (i.e. Fruit Bats, the Go! Team) and anticipate a few more. But I've got an old friend from high school in from out of town and thought I'd get her a mix while she's here, so set up the rough draft tonight. I can see dropping a few of these -- while it was a pleasant surprise to see New Zealand's Bats get back together, the album lacks any really stand-out tracks; and the Oranger album is a bit lukewarm. After that it gets tougher to make cuts. Even a lot of the artists here who are well past their prime (i.e. Bettie Serveert, Teenage Fanclub, Malkmus) had some fine tunes this year. Personally, I can just play the first two songs on the mix over and over and never listen to anything else.

17-21 are great selections, although I'm a little disappointed by Oranger's new direction.

great job! You can wank around with the finer details for ever, in my opinion, but sooner or later you just have to draw a line. I would draw it now!

Good stuff. (I hope your PC didn't get a virus working on that MMJ track.)

I too love Off The Record. Also great Big Star, Bright Eyes and Ben Folds picks. And of course Slow Fade proves Teenage Fanclub haven't lost it.

ALways like seeing your annual best-of mixes, as they're pretty similar to what I'd include if I could summon up the energy to do one myself. My Morning Jacket? I've honestly never heard them, but Off the Record is the name of one of San Diego's better indie record stores.

This looks great. Though, for the life of me, I can't see the appeal of My Morning Jacket. I seem to be the only one.

Great stuff. Manx, New Porno, and Pernice Bros. also made my list. And a tip of the hat on the cover art.

Great picks here - as I've mentioned before, I always think it's interesting to see what everyone picks as their favourite records at the end of the year. Glad to see Mr. Folds present and correct, as well as the Big Star - I just got that CD and haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, so the fact that a track from it's on here is a good sign!
