Comment:

Two of my guilty pleasures: The O.C. and Grey's Anatomy...both of which I'm slightly ashamed of loving. However, they do use some great songs, and at least once an episode I notice a song I've already got on an album, sometimes that I've neglected. For this mix, I basically just searched music I already owned for songs that had appeared on either show. And now I can't stop listening to it.

I've been listening to spoon a lot lately and that is a fine track. I've never seen an episode of either show but yes it seems they do feature fine songs. But - the last track i simply cannot stand.

Well, I bookended the mix with the theme songs from each...and I kinda like the re-do of the California song. Although I understand how irritating it can be to someone who doesn't watch the show.

Dammit, one of those shows co-opted my beloved Of Montreal? And The Ditty Bops? And...oh wait, yeah, Tegan and Sara, Iron & Wine, Wilco, and Rilo Kiley, I knew those. But it still pisses me off. Don't get me wrong - this is good music through and through (except, as sammyg noted, the Phantom Planet revision, of which I am no fan either), and I should be happy that these indie bands are getting their share of the spotlight unlike most indie bands, but you know how it is with us music geeks: it feels like a betrayal and a deep loss when our precious obscure bands get famous. Of Montreal were mine! They belonged to me...I kept them in my back pocket, and rubbed it frequently to show my affection. Now they're the property of that goddamn "O.C." show and all its desperate-to-be-hip (even though they're probably way cooler than me anyway) teen viewers. :(
