Other Mixes By Chema Chump
Songs are more powerful than words: A Mixtape for Ileana
Comment:
This was my first mixtape of the year. I made it for this girl that I really, really like, inspired by Thurston Moore's book "The Art of the Mix", where curiously enough, I found about this site.Side A, dubbed "The Concept Tape" contains a narrative arc where I selected the songs that either reminded me of her or where I wanted to get some sort of message across. The first track is the first tune I remember hearing on her radio show. When I met her, she was carrying a Le Tigre tote bag. We both love the "Royal Tenenbaums", so I chose my second favorite song on that movie (Elliott Smith's "Needle in the Hay" may have been too dark for this compilation). Track four is pretty much self explanatory.
Side B is more about songs that I really like that I wanted to share with her. Can't call it didactic though, considering that she knew most of the bands in it (She's THAT cool!).
The cover art was nber-photographer (and great friend) Chrissy Piper's snapshot of a barb wire fence.
Feedback:
