Comment:
My own pick of the best tracks released on Rough Trade, one of the main players of the 80s indie scene and still going strong. Kicks off with the awesome Paris Maquis. For a discography of the early years go to http://www.furious.com/PERFECT/rt.docMIX

Feedback:
Oh as soon as I saw the title I knew this was going to be special. Some of these I had forgotten about completely. The Woodentops?? Blast from the past big time. I had two of their albums back in the day, I dont know if they ever made another. This is slick Sam, I love that Sundays song and I recall seeing Shelleyan Orphan opening for fat Bob Smith and his pastey faced ensemble in 1991 and being impressed by the singers sweet voice. Great 'Prunes and Monochrome Set choices and man I love that closer. I would love a copy of this bad boy.
alll classic stuff here
sounds like a possibly essential compilation. and -- Robert Wyatt's "Shipbuilding"!
"alll classic stuff here" is dead-on, as is the mighty abangaku's comment.
Great label, great selection!
Those Sandie Shaw/Smiths tracks are fantastic.
galaxie 500, Aztec Camera, Virgin Prunes; nice one, 123. what ever happened to Shelleyan Orphan? I liked them so much.
Harriet Wheeler is my all time fav female vocalist, God this takes me back! Some top tunes here indeed.
Yeah I'll go with "essential."
Can I comment again? Is that against the rules? To hell with rules i'm in an anarchic frame of mind (must be the Guinesss) I forgot to mention those are 2 of my favourite Dean Wareham songs! Oh and congrats on todays result! I wanted to kick my cat but sadly i dont have one anymore, those busy body neighbours took care of that, grrrrrrrr!
Excellent tribute to a great label.
Whattaphuckingreatcollection!!! Oh yeah, Shelleyan Orphan materialised into a group called Babacar
OH wow, Sammy, this kicks some major ass. Haven't thought about Scritti Politti or the Virgin Prunes in years. Makes me wonder what I've been wasting my thoughts on. And how much do I love "Totally Wired"? Let me know if you'd be interested in a trade.
What Jenny says in her first and last sentences. I pretty much love everything here. Fantastic job.
Wonderful...plain and simple.
Nice to see promotions of indie record stores/labels with the elimination of so many fine purveyors/vendors due to internet purchasing.

Very impressive- they deserve the tribute! Look forward to seeing the later years maybe?
I used to follow labels like others follow sports teams and the Trade was one of my favourites. You've done 'em proud -but no Swell Maps??!
This may have the highest percentage of artists that I had "heard of" but not "heard" - outstanding mix!
No commercial comp hits all my faves like this does. Especially cool to bring that Woodentops track to mind again. Hard to top that opening deuce, but it's excellent to the end.
Please consider offering a re-posting/dropload for this title. No, seriously.
Perfect!!
I've been listening to this today and it is, as I suspected a fabulous mix of stuff I knew I liked, stuff I didn't know I liked, stuff I'd forgotten I liked and, best of all, stuff I didn't like at the time but sounds fantastic now. The Scritti Politti track was a revelation! At the time I didn't much care for anything they did before The Sweetest Girl. What was I thinking of? Great mix and thanks again for the copy.
great stuff
