UGH #4 = Atmosphere, pioneers of underground hip-hop, these guys really opened the doors for a lot of people. Their popularity among the indie rock community and their recent deal with punk label Epitaph are proof that hip hop doesn't all have to be about being a badass "gangsta" all the time, and there are still people with vital things to say. The more recent stuff is pretty good, but if you really want to see why Atmosphere has gotten so famous, you have to listen to the music that got them there. That's why most of this tape is stuff that pre-dates their rise to underground stardom. Well that reason, plus the fact that these songs kill anything Atmosphere has done in the past 5 years. Keep your eyes out for Volume V, coming soon. I'm thinking Brian Jonestown Massacre, what are your thoughts?
