Comment:

I'm giving this mix to my father for Hannukah, as part of my continued efforts to get him to appreciate modern rock. Every track on here is a recent song that derives from 50s and 60s rock. Some of these songs fit into genres (e.g. The Pipettes are a 60s-style girl group and the Bees have recorded a garage rock-sounding track), whereas other songs on here reference specific artists/songs (e.g. Jarvis Cocker's song samples Tommy James and the Shondelles' "Crimson and Clover," and "Ode to L.A." uses Ronnie Spector's backing vocals in a way reminiscent of the Ronnette's "Be My Baby"). Hopefully there is a song on here for every oldies fan out there!

Awesome! I'm so stealing this idea. Best one: Jarvis. Such a magnificent song thanks to his vocals and that sample. Really well done....when's the sequel?

I love that Jarvis track, too! Of course, "Crimson and Clover" is such a great song to work from. You add in a voice as fantastic as Jarvis', and you really can't go wrong.

100 points for originality! I was about to question the Ronettes/Raveonettes connection, but you have already answered that. Nice work. I am sure Dad will dig it. And yeah, the Pipettes....
