Comment:

Time for the annual mix... and, gotta say, tough year. Not necessary a brilliant year -- song for song, I think my 2005 mix was stronger -- but a ton of really, really good tunes out there. As with a couple years ago, I've got enough for an auxiliary list of also-rans that will show up on another mix, but these are my personal faves. A bit less poppy than recent years, perhaps a bit heavier on roots/Americana-infused stuff.

Hey, you finally posted yours! Pretty cool mix. Obviously, I love the Essex Green and Flaming Lips tracks (as noted by you on my best of '06 mix). I also really like/liked the Mountain Goats, Cat Power, Belle & Sebastian, and Minus 5 records. The rest are all things that I could more or less take or leave, but I probably like 'em more than not.

Very nice. I'd recommend you to lend an ear to Latinamerican artists.

Not necessary a brilliant year, maybe not. But with forthcoming albums by Of Montreal, Arcade Fire, Shins, Apples In Stereo, Air, Apsotle Of Hustle & Field Music, all in the first three months of this, I predict 2007 will be a GREAT year!
Favourites on your 06 mix include the opener, closer, Jenny Lewis & Essex Green tracks. Nice Work..

Lots of familiar faces here, but I haven't had much chance to sample the 2006 yet. Happy '07 from the other Lenny.

Look great - we have some of the same picks, but different songs in each case...
I also just finished my best of '06 "part 2" what has albums 21 through 40... FOr a "tough year" I've managed to come up with a whole lot of stuff! :)

I'm with you on the bulk of this, 1,4,10,14, 19,20 & the closer especially big in the Frenchy household.

Alot of overlap with my (uncompiled) list. 1-4,7,12,16,20 and 23 would have made mine.

I like to look at both Cat Power & Susannah Hoffs a lot. I like to listen to Belle & Sebastian from time to time. I don't really know anyone else here. Well, I know Flaming Lips but not their latest stuff. Essex Green seems to get a lot of mentions round here. Maybe I should check them out. I have to confess that I like to check Leny Dee' back cat!

Thanks for the heads up, Popsan because I got really jaded last year and am trying to correct my ill ways and get calibrated properly.

Just found this through the part 2 link and I got to agree that this was a very good year with lots of interesting albums throughout the year. Tons of good songs. Maybe not great but overall a satisfying collection.
